14 million Americans tuned in to watch the Women's World Cup Germany 2011 final match between the USA and Japan, ranking as the second highest audience for a daytime telecast in US cable history.
A total of 59 millions viewers watched globally, including 12.1 million from Japan and 12 million from Germany the Host Nation.
Meanwhile on Twitter, worldwide interest in the final drew 7,196 tweets per second, a Twitter record at the time. The record has since been surpassed by Super Bowl XLVI that spurred roughly 10,000 per second in its closing minutes and Spain's fourth goal in the EURO 2012 final that ignited 15,000 tweets per second.
