Canada's squad arrived home with bronze medals around their neck to a
heroes' welcome. Airports across the country where players were landing saw the arrivals area bursting with fans wanting to see the Olympians who victorious in winning Canada's first
traditional team sport medal since 1936.
The Canadian WNT was awarded the Team of the Year at the annual 40th Canadian Sport Awards, which recognize and honour excellence in Canadian sport.
Available players made an appearance at a special ceremony at the men's FIFA World Cup Qualifying match between Canada and Panama in Toronto, Ont. The Canadian Soccer Association said the event was intended to "give the Canadian soccer community a chance to show their appreciation for the Canadian team's remarkable medal-winning performance at the London 2012 Women's Olympic Football Tournament".
Captain Christine Sinclair, who was the tournament's top scorer, was presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Canada's Minister of State (Sport). The awards honours significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
