England's FA Strategy to Grow the Fan Base

A key element to the FA's five-year "Game Changer" strategy is to grow the women's fan base. The FA WSL has an average attendance of 550 per match in the two season of existence since it's launch in 2011. England National Team home attendance averages 5,000 meanwhile the London 2012 Olympics saw over 70,000 fans come to Wembley to watch Team GB defeat Brazil in group play.

The Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation, a research partner to the FA, conducted a post-Olympic survey with IPSOS Mori showing that 75% of adults want to see increased media coverage of women's sports as part of the Games' legacy and 81% think female athletes are better role models that other celebrities.

“The fans at the Olympics were incredible from the support in the stadia, around the country and in the post-Games parade. The players were really overwhelmed at times by the level of support shown by the fans who attended. We now have to harness that enthusiasm and ensure we attract fans to England and FA WSL” - Casey Stoney, England Women’s Captain.

See below for the FA goals to 2018 to grow the fan base, as described in the FA Plan document:
