Facts from London 2012 Olympics

Some facts taken from the official Olympics website (www.olympic.org) and event website (http://www.london2012.com):

An Olympic attendance record was set when the United States beat Japan to win gold with a crowd of 80,203.

70,584 people watched the Host Nation Great Britain defeat Brazil at Wembley - more than watched Team GB men's team beat Uruguay the following day.

The USA played in their fifth successive Olympic final, having lost just one of the previous four, while Japan played their first.

Women's football has featured in the Olympic programme for five times now, after being introduced as an Olympic Sport in 1996. Men's football has been an Olympic Sport since the Games of the II Olympiad in Paris 1900, and has been included ever since, with the exception of Los Angeles 1932.

Canadian Christine Sinclair was the tournament's top scorer with 6 goals in 6 matches. American Abby Wambach scored 5 in 6 matches.

The women's football tournament averaged 2.7 goals per game across all matches, all teams.

Out of the four semi-finalists, the USA had the most goals-for with 16 (with 6 goals-against) while Japan had the least goals-against with 4 (and 7 goals-for).
