Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 Expands to 24 Teams


With the growth of the game and the increasing parity among football nations, FIFA is adding eight teams to the field for the Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, for a total of 24 teams (the men’s World Cup features 32 teams).

The FIFA Executive Committee announced the new slot allocations for the six confederations, as follows:

AFC: 5 slots 

CAF: 3 slots 

CONCACAF: 3.5 slots 

CONMEBOL: 2.5 Slots 

OFC: 1 Slot 

UEFA: 8 Slots 

HOST: 1 Slot (Canada)
