The draw for the UEFA Women's EURO 2013 Sweden was announced
on November 9th at the Svenska Massan Exhibition and Congress Centre in
Gothenburg, Sweden and broadcast across the continent on Eurosport and live
streamed on the internet.
Host Sweden joins the 11 qualifying nations who are broken
into three groups of four teams:
Group A: Sweden, Italy, Finland, Denmark (venues:
Gothenburg/Halmstad)
Group B: Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Iceland (venues: Vaxjo/Kalmar)
Group C: France, England, Spain, Russia (venues: Norkopping/Linkoping)
Group B: Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Iceland (venues: Vaxjo/Kalmar)
Group C: France, England, Spain, Russia (venues: Norkopping/Linkoping)
The top two from each section and the two best runners-up
move into the quarterfinals, from when the competition is a straight knockout.
Karen Espelund, UEFA Executive Committee member and UEFA
Women's Football Committee chairwoman, said:
"Women's football is winning ground at a resounding
pace. Around 70,000 people watched the Great Britain women play Brazil this
summer at the Olympics. The UEFA Women's Champions League final in Munich was
played in front of 50,000 and the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany attracted
record TV audiences.
"There is great momentum for women's football in Europe
and the next great event in Europe is UEFA Women's EURO 2013 and it could not
come at a more exciting time for the game."
Germany has dominated, winning the last five tournaments. Will the 2013 edition reflect the growing levels of parity evident during the 2011 WWC and 2012 London Olympics?
