MLS Co-Branding with Women’s Soccer is Fresh, Exciting and Increases Awarenes

Here's a quick hit on the MLS and women's clubs. I took a quick look at the branding of the four women’s teams that have the same name as MLS clubs. (Note: the nature of the collaboration is different for each team.) On the images below you'll see that the logo look and feel are the same for both the men's and women's teams. DC United, Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders all call out on their logos that it's a women's squad, while the Whitecaps use the same logo for both squads.

The connection suggested by this branding is different depending on the club. All women's teams compete in the USL W-League and there is no connection at the league level, according to an article by MLS's Jonah Freedman, who elaborates on the nature of the partnerships:

Pros and cons of co-branding aside (there's been tons of discussion around this since the folding of the WPS), these partnerships are fresh, exciting and increase awareness.
